Michael Kanell, MD
Michael Kanell, M.D., QME is double board-certified in General Adult Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. He completed his psychiatry residency and forensic psychiatry fellowship training through the UCLA and Greater Los Angeles VA hospital systems. Dr. Kanell also completed specialized training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the New Center for Psychoanalysis, bringing a deep understanding of personality structure, emotional functioning, and behavioral patterns to his forensic evaluations.
Dr. Kanell has experience evaluating a wide range of psychiatric conditions that may arise in the workers’ compensation setting, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADHD, psychotic disorders, anger-related concerns, and other complex mental health issues. His evaluations are informed by both evidence-based psychiatric practice and careful attention to the psychological, occupational, and personal factors that may affect an individual’s functioning.
As a Qualified Medical Evaluator, Dr. Kanell provides comprehensive, thoughtful, and well-reasoned psychiatric evaluations. His approach focuses on clearly addressing relevant medicolegal issues, including causation, apportionment, disability, work capacity, treatment needs, and the relationship between reported symptoms and the available medical and occupational records.
